TALES FROM "BOB THE BEAVER"

"FEDS Beavers"

by Bob the Beaver

As I sat around the lodge with a bunch of beavers from many parts of Canada, I listened to them joking about the Canadian political parties. Some tended to apologize for how they voted as they had a family tradition to uphold.

But their fundamental political values were almost all identical. Regrettably, they all felt that each political party represented the values and goals of some small radical extremist group of Beavers. I think they were right!

The "Middle of the River Party" tended to win elections by promising to do everything the largest groups of beavers wanted. But since there was an even larger group of cousin beavers in the USA, they often got confused between what the American and Canadian beavers wanted. The "Right Bank Party" tended to support the big bankers and richest beavers who didn't like to make many changes to the way things were in the past. The "Left Bank Party" wanted everybody to equally share everything that was left over after they helped themselves to the best of everything. The "Independent Pond Party" wanted each pond to be on its own without sharing with the rest of Canada. We even had "The Tree's Rights Party" that wanted to stop us from cutting down any more trees.

But as they spoke I saw that every one of them wanted "Free Enterprise". They didn't want big government or big corporations or international conglomerates to dominate and control any one of our industries. They wanted free competition between all the businesses and lots of small family sized businesses serving all the parts of the country.

The beavers wanted real "Democracy" where the majority of beavers decided on the new laws. They didn't like these small groups in political parties choosing what laws to pass. They felt that these political party members were almost the same as the old communist parties that had ruled in other parts of the world. Those party leaders had way too much power and their elections were popularity contests - not responsible political agendas!

I found that they all really cared about other beavers. They wanted to help beavers that were having problems in their lives. They wanted a "Socialist" safety net of programs to help Canada become healthy, educated, cultured and progressive.

It seems that every beaver I meet wants Free-Enterprise and Democratic Socialism. If we had a FEDS political party, I'm sure it would win every election for years to come!
