TALES FROM "BOB THE BEAVER"

"House Plants"

by Bob the Beaver

I remember the time when I was taking care of our two little baby beavers at home. I was pretty well burned out from building the new towns and cities, so for five years I stayed around the lodge taking care of our precious little gifts while "Barb the Beaver" worked in town.

I would do all the usual chores for the pups and the lodge, but I began to notice plants sprouting up in different rooms and in clumps here and there. Of course, as soon as I spread some fresh clean mud over them they would sprout up the next day somewhere else.

Well this went on and on, day after day, week after week. It got so bad that I didn't have time to do all my chores. So finally, one morning I hid in a corner and watched to see what was going on.

Sure enough, our son "Buckey" toddled into the room with his favourite branch in his mouth. On the branch was the seed pod for the plant that used to grow from it. As "Buckey" left the room he left his branch right there on the fresh wet mud. I could see the tiny seedlings sprinkled around the branch.

Then our daughter "Babs" slipped into the room and began to groom her fur. As I watched, I could see the small seeds from the berry patch she had been exploring at breakfast time spilling onto my fresh clean floor.

Well, once I took them both outside and showed them the itchy and scratchy critters that lived in these plants they both decided to stop dropping their things and making a mess of our floors. I was now able to catch up on my chores and with my spare time we were able to play "dip & dive" together in our pool outside almost everyday!

Now, I don't know about you. But if your house sprouts piles of weeds in the kids rooms or elsewhere, you'll be surprised how fast they disappear when the kids want to play "dip & dive" with you!
